Making Derby a hub for electric vehicle charging

We’re proud to announce that work on our new expanded car park is now complete. Not only do we now have space for around 300 cars and 70 overflow spaces, but we’re also welcoming electric vehicles too.

We now have 14 car charging ports, with three of these installed by electric car specialist Tesla. This makes our car park the largest concentration of electric car charging ports in one location across the whole of Derby!

Electric cars are becoming more popular, especially for businesses because of their cheaper tax and other incentives. However, you might be surprised to know the East Midlands is one of the smallest regions in terms of the number of charging points. We hope that by having such a high number of charging points at The Derby Conference Centre, we can encourage other businesses in our region to follow suit, particularly as electric cars are increasing in popularity. In October 2018, there were some 182 000 electric vehicles on our roads.

As our Managing Director Matthew Hutchings says;

“Here at The Derby Conference Centre, we’re always aware of our responsibilities to the environment and the electric car charging ports in our new car park really reflects this. Electric cars are only going to become more prevalent on our roads so we believe it’s important that anyone driving an electric or hybrid vehicle who wants to visit, not only our Centre, but the great city of Derby has the opportunity to keep their vehicles charged.”

Work on our new, expanded car park began last summer as a result of an increased demand for our services and it is predicted to bring 40 new jobs to the region. Good news for all you football fans out there, we’re only a short walk away from the iPro Pride Park Stadium so you can charge your car while you enjoy the match!

Electric car charging is just one of the facilities we have here at The Derby Conference Centre. Find out about our other facilities here or speak to a member of our team for more details.
